I sit around all day and write. Seriously, that’s my life. I write for a bunch of different sites and I just bang out words with my fingers. Every once in a while I get a fun or exciting topic – like earlier today I got to write about the top drug scenes in video games – but usually they’re boring as shit.
When I write, I need a little bit of noise in the background to boost inspiration. I can’t explain why, but it helps me stay focused and productive. I used to just play music really low, but I’ve since turned to something else – Let’s Play videos. Since I don’t have as much time to game for myself anymore, watching Let’s Play videos allows me to experience games while doing work. You’d think it would be distracting, but it’s really not – unless the host has an annoying voice.
Let’s Plays are super popular these days, because honestly who the fuck has time to dedicate their entire day – every day – to video games? I’m sure some of you out there do, and if that applies to you then fuck you, I envy you.
Anyway, I thought I would take some time to share my favorite Let’s Players. I watch these guys and gals’ every day, so I feel like I need to give a little something back to them. Hopefully this will earn them all a couple more viewers.
My Favorite Let’s Player: The Rad Brad
There’s one reason why I love watching The Rad Brad’s videos, and it has to do with his excitement. It sounds funny at first, but when you sit down and watch his videos you’ll see exactly what I mean. When Brad plays, he’s generally doing it for the first time. He hasn’t practiced off screen and he hasn’t had any previous exposure to the games – for the most part. This means, you are both experiencing the same things for the first time. It’s this element that really makes his videos fun to watch. When an enemy pops out and scares the shit out of you, it happens to him too. When a crazy cutscene plays on screen and sends you tripping balls on adrenaline, it happens to him too.
It doesn’t hurt that he knows when to shutup, either. Most Let’s Players offer commentary at the worst times like during an important cutscene or right in the middle of an action-packed dialogue exchange. Brad, on the other hand does a pretty good job of getting out of the way when he needs to. That is what I value most in a host.
If you haven’t had the chance already, I highly recommend checking out some of Brad’s videos. I’d say when you have quite a lengthy Day-Z session where nothing exciting happens yet the video still manages to be fun, you’re on the right track. Keep ’em comin Brad.
Best Vita Let’s Player: Gadget Girl Kylie
“Hey guys, Gadget Girl Kylie here…”
You better get used to that opening phrase because she uses it at the beginning of every video. I can’t help but chuckle when I hear it.
Her channel does not exclusively include Vita related content, she actually plays across a wide variety of consoles. That said, I love watching her channel for the Vita stuff. If you own a Vita, then you already know a lot of the games for the system are niche oriented. The niche stuff happens to be what Kylie focuses on. She really loves Soul Sacrifice, but there are also a lot of JRPG and anime titles in there too.
If you own a Vita, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not checking out Kylie’s stuff.
Funniest Let’s Player: Lucahjin
Lucah doesn’t really play a lot of games that I’d ever be interested in trying myself, but that’s okay. She has a damn good time while she’s doing it, and I’ll be damned if there’s ever been a video of hers that didn’t make me laugh while watching.
When she’s not making weird noises, and adding odd filters to her voice she has the best voice ever. I really mean that. Just go listen to it.
My favorite video is the one where she eats a taco on screen the whole time and does nothing else. It’s fucking weird, but hilarious. Oddly enough, it’s also pretty inspiring since I’ve written many an article while it played in the background.
Go check out her shit, yo.

That’s it for my favorite Let’s Players. Of course, there are quite a few other channels I like to watch, but again these are my top choices. What are yours?
