For some time, I’ve been struggling to enjoy my gaming sessions. Not only have I had trouble getting into game after game, I just couldn’t focus when I did settle on something. It became a chore to power through whatever was in front of me.

I’m not sure what it is, maybe I’ve just burned myself out. Nothing could capture my interest, from Breath of the Wild to Red Dead Redemption 2 — blasphemy I know. They are all great games, but the fault lies within me.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey tomb shot

Something about Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, however, just snagged me and kept me hooked. I love the setting, of course, Greece is gorgeous. I love the characters — I chose Kassandra. I love the RPG additions. And I’ve always loved the AC series, I have every game sitting on a shelf nearby, even the first. Many would claim Odyssey’s — and Origins’ — departure from the original games to be too great. I would argue the opposite. They are Assassin’s Creed, perfected in nearly every way. That said, Odyssey could certainly use a few more assassins in its world, there are so few.

It inspired me to jump back into Unity. The game that was seen as a disaster by many. Oddly enough, I’ve come to recognize many of the same game mechanics and elements that I experienced in Odyssey.

Beyond Unity, I have plans to jump back into some of the games I had abandoned since. Red Dead and Breath of the Wild are certainly on that list, as is finishing my run of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

For now, I have the AC: O developers and crew to thank for that. I had a ton of fun exploring the world and spartan kicking every motherfucker I could. So much fun, in fact, that I platinumed the game and achieved every trophy for the DLC released thus far. I can’t wait to dive back in once more content is available.

Have you had a similar experience? Maybe with a different game?
