I’m sure there’s going to be a million different reviews of the games included in Humble Bundle 8, that’s a given. I mean, you can get the entire pack of seven games (five + two bonus titles) for merely 6 bucks. Hell yeah, now that’s what I’m talking about.
Of course, one of the biggest issues with a lot of these indie bundles is that sometimes you drop the money and the games suck ass. Trust me, I’ve dropped money on quite a few bundles that I regret purchasing. Sure, sure you help charity and all that. Great. We all know most of us are in it for the games.
Which indie shits are the best?
So, which of the games are worth buying and which ones are the weak links in the chain? Well, here’s your list.
The weak links in the chain
Little Inferno
Dear Esther
The collateral damage
Awesomenauts
Capsized
The reason to buy the bundle
Hotline Miami
Proteus
Thomas Was Alone
That’s great, but how do all of these games play?
Hotline Miami is a brutal in-your-face action game set in a unique 80s style backdrop. Essentially, you beat the ever loving shit out of bad guys to the beat of some pretty rad music. It has a damn good story too, which is surprising as all hell.
Proteus is a weird, yet captivating game that draws inspiration from open world titles. It’s certainly strange, and instead of playing the game, earning achievements or completing objectives you just explore the randomly generated world the entire time. As you explore, a custom soundtrack plays to the tune of your experiences.
Thomas Was Alone is an incredibly simple yet engaging puzzle-platformer. You move various shapes throughout ever-changing levels all the while experiencing a rather peculiar narrative. Truthfully, the narrative is what drives the game. It draws you in and keeps you playing just to see what happens next.
Awesonauts is a MOBA inspired game like DOTA 2 or LOL, only it’s presented in a 2D sidescrolling [platformer] style. Instead of rushing to points, you basically rush across the screen and blow the hell out of baddies. The beauty of Awesomenauts is that you don’t even have to play online, you can play all by yourself in practice mode, and you can unlock all the extra stuff too.
Capsized is another 2D platformer like Waking Mars. In fact, it’s a lot like Waking Mars, and you even have a jetpack. Of course, you have all kinds of other tools at your disposal too. Think, modern day Metroid for PC.
Since Dear Esther and Little Inferno are the weakest links I’m not going to bother talking about them. If you decide to purchase the bundle you can check them out yourself.
