Free to play Android games in my rotation

Free to play Android games in my rotation

Lately, I’ve been jumping back and forth between a variety of F2P titles on Android. Many of you may be disgusted by this fact, and to that I say touche. Considering I wrote a post some time ago that free to play is hurting the industry, this seems rather hypocritical of me.

Well, I haven’t really had a change of heart. There are still a lot of free to play games out there that are trash, and honestly, some of the games I’ve been playing might fit into that category – it all just depends on what you like I suppose.

I don’t judge anyone that wants to play free games, I don’t even care. My issue was always with the fact that free games are saturating the market. I felt like this was bad for premium and paid games – and in a way it still is – but I underestimated the true impact. I was wrong, and I’m owning up to that. On the internet, of all places.

Good God, you fuckers are lucky.

Free to Play Android Games I Enjoy

Anyway, here’s the rotation of games I’ve been playing lately on my lovely new Moto X Pure Edition (awesome phone by the way).

Dungeon Hunter 5

Dungeon Hunter 5 is an action-RPG and dungeon crawler similar to Diablo or Torchlight. The graphics are top-notch for a mobile game and the controls are pretty responsive. I usually hate touch controls but DH5’s aren’t too bad. This one does employ some heavy F2P micro-transactions, so if those turn you off stay away. It also uses the familiar energy-based gameplay system, so once you run out you need to wait for things to recharge. There’s plenty to do, however, so I rarely find myself sitting around waiting.

This is one of those games you can fire up when you’re on the toilet, chilling at the in-laws bored, or just want something to occupy your time. You don’t have to fucking worry about coming back to a town, city, or empire you built that’s been leveled by some overpowered asshat, either.

There is basic a form of PVP and a recent update just introduced cooperative play if you know anyone that’s on their phone at the same time as you (I don’t so I never use that shit).

Eternity Warriors 4

EW4 is the same deal as Dungeon Hunter 5, except not quite as flashy. There seem to be a lot more rewards and rare drops in this one. If you like your multi-colored loot, give EW a try.

Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes

This one is a turn-based RPG starring characters from the Star Wars franchise. There’s a ton of shit to do and it’s a lot of fun. Battles with either carry out automatically, or you can manually give orders. The automatic option comes in handy when you’re dog tired, laying in bed, and can’t get sleep – especially if you have chubby ass fingers like me.

Marvel Future Fight

To be honest, Marvel Future Fight isn’t all that different from DH5 or EW4, the exception being the multitude of Marvel characters you can collect and level up. I like it because it’s an RPG and it’s Marvel. What more could you ask for really?

There are micro-transactions but you don’t need to bother with them to enjoy the game.

EvoCreo ($0.99)

For the longest time, I wanted to play a Pokemon style game on my phone. The only option was to fire up an emulator and load one of the older games, but seriously I’ve already played through them like bajillion times. Sometimes you just want to experience something fresh and that’s where EvoCreo comes into play.

It’s not F2P, but it’s only $0.99 for the full game. There is a free version but I didn’t even bother to give it a try because the full one was so cheap. There are micro-transactions but you don’t need to bother with them. There are also DLC/game expansions you can purchase for more content if you beat the game.

I’m spending tons of time leveling my Creos, and it makes for some uber-nostalgic fun.

Rise of Darkness

This is the newest game in my arsenal, and it’s not any different from DH5 or EW4. What can I say, I love action-RPGs and hack-and-slash style games? This one is delightfully gory, which is surprising for a mobile game. There are a bunch of different classes you can play, and there is also a ton of loot to collect.

Give it a try.

Honorable Mentions

The following list is a bunch of games that I won’t uninstall from my device and I play occasionally. It might be because I like to check out the daily rewards they’re giving away, or that I’m bored with the other games I’m playing. If you haven’t figured it out already, I have some serious ADD when it comes to playing games. I bounce around all over the fucking place.

  • Assassin’s Creed Pirates
  • Star Wars Uprising
  • Beastie Bay
  • Pokemon Shuffle
  • Terraria (paid)
  • Minecraft: Pocket Edition (paid)
  • Dead Effect (paid)
  • 10000000 (paid)

If there are any games out there that you think I should check out, feel free to leave a comment. I’m always open to try out new shit.
